Banasura Sagar Dam Wayanad
Banasura Sagar Dam is located 21 km from Kalpetta, in Wayanad District of Kerala in the Western Ghats. It is the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest in Asia and an ideal starting point for hikes into the surrounding scenic mountains. It is an important tourist attraction.
Banasura Sagar Dam is at the foot of the Banasura Hill. Banasura Sagar Dam is a must see place if you plan to visit Wayanad in Kerala. The view pathway is a kilometer away from the main gate and you can choose to walk or take a van ride. Once you reach the top, the view of the reservoir and the mountains is truly serene and breathtaking. Few activities offered are speed boat ride, horse riding and a children’s park.
Important to note: This place gets crowded very fast. So try to be there when it opens. Starting from the queue for the jeep to the top, to the speedboat, there will be extended lines. On the way to the place there will be some good spots to take photographs. Make sure you use them wisely so that you can use your time in the boat to take in the spectacular views. Worth visiting and should be clubbed with Meenmutty water falls which is just 2 kms away from this.
