Theyyam is the ritualistic performance, which can be described as the most visible, spectacular art form of Northern part of Kerala, associated with myths and legends. Theyyam can also be described as a form of worship consisting of rituals, colorful costumes and divine dance through which the gods are appeased and honoured. Theyyam ceremonies usually take place either within the precincts of a small shrine – usually called Kavu, Kazhakam, Muchilottu, Mundiya, or in the yard of an ancestral house, or in an open space with a temporary shrine called Pathi. Even though Theyyam is a ritual performance, because of its beautiful costumes and vibrant face- writing, it attracts many people around the world. Theyyam Tour Packages.

Theyyams are mostly performed in Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala state and some parts of Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. During the season Theyyam festivals will happen at different Temples of these districts, mostly in villages

Theyyam season begins  by Oct last and ends by May last

Over 400 different types of Theyyams are performed different parts of Kannur and Kasaragod districts every year.

Timing of Theyyam performances depends on types of Theyyams and the place where it is performed. Fire Theyyams usually happening between 7pm to 5am next day. Most of the other Theyyams happens during the day between 6am to 4pm.

Before planning a Theyyam visit, one must know which Temple or ancestral home they have to visit to see Theyyam also which date and time. Theyyam is not an organized event, also most of the temples follow local calendar, and so annual festival falls on different date every year. So it will be difficult for an outsider to find a Theyyam performance happening in remote villages.  Our Theyyam festival calendar with the information of over 3000 temples where Theyyams are performing, we can help our guest to reach the right place at right time to experience Theyyam.

Day 01 – Arrival at Payyanur Railway Station / Kannur Intl Airport. Transfer to hotel, if time permit theyyam visit rest of the day. Depending on the availability, fire theyyam visit at night or early morning. Overnight stay at hotel/resort in Kannur or Kasaragod.

Day 02 – After breakfast Theyyam visit continue, Other activities – Village life experience which includes experiencing coconut climbing, toddy extraction process, rubber tapping, farming, village / river side walk, farm homestay  visit, interaction with local people, kayaking / boating at river (above activities will be covered depending on time availability). Overnight stay at hotel/resort in Kannur or Kasaragod

Day  03 – After breakfast Theyyam visit continue, Other activities –Kalaripayattu martial art experience, local fishing, handloom weaving unit, Brass metal making unit, experiencing traditional Kerala food (above activities will be covered depending on time availability). Overnight stay at hotel/resort in Kannur or Kasaragod

Day 04 – Sightseeing major destinations of Kannur & Kasaragod. Overnight stay at hotel/resort in Kannur or Kasaragod

Day 05 – Check out and transfer to  Payyanur Railway Station / Kannur Intl Airport.
